WHO?

Dean Keddell, Executive Chef and Owner of two of Bali’s most beloved restaurants (Ginger Moon Canteen and Jackson Lily’s) started working on a cookbook to raise some money for these desperate families, villages and charities. Over 400 pages later, Dean has collected a quintessential list of unique Bali recipes from his staff, their families, local warungs and his restaurants.

THE BOOK

The 400-page hardcover coffee table book is filled with recipes from the basics to some of Dean's most sophisticated recipes he serves in his restaurants. Learn how to make your own bumbu (the base of many Indonesian recipes), a variety of sambals (side dishes), and your own dumpling wrappers with beautiful fillings and traditional satays. If you've ever visited Ginger Moon or Jackson Lily's, you'll be excited to discover some of the secret recipes of signature dishes. You will love the stories, the photos, and the recipes.

Dean Keddell brought Our Bali Your Bali and the tropics to the artic circle for 4 days in June 2022. The Gourmand Book Awards, the world’s most prestigious awards (compared to the “Oscars” for film) was held in Umea, Sweden.

The Gourmand Awards gives an overview of the best around the world. The size of that universe is difficult to envision. In total, it has been estimated that there are over 100.000 food and drink culture book and documents every year, in print or digital, free or paid, with or without ISBN. There were 1558 selections from 227 countries and regions, 1393 entries for Food Culture and 165 for Drink Culture. There is approximately 1% chance to be selected on this Gourmand Awards list! (Gourmand Awards).

Our Bali Your Bali – the community cookbook - won two prestigious awards in the category "THE BEST OF THE BEST”. THE BEST COOKBOOK IN THE WORLD (2nd place) and the BEST FUNDRAISING BOOK ASIA. Whilst Dean was humbled in winning these awards, he saw the Gourmand Book Awards as an amazing platform from which to bring Bali to the world, a way to both continue raising money for years to come and away to remind the world how beautiful a place Bali truly is.

THE CHARITIES

The charities that will benefit from the proceeds of this campaign are the backbone of Balinese society - they support the poor and vulnerable at the best of times. With this pandemic, many more families have joined the ranks of the needy, while the charities have found themselves unable to raise even their normal funds. Cashflows are at critical levels and these charities need financial aid to continue, let alone expand their support for the growing numbers needing food, clothing, education, and environmental needs.

It is important to note extreme poverty was punishing communities in Bali long before COVID hit, the pandemic has only made matters worse, much worse. As the world gets back on its feet the goals of Our Bali Your Bali have shifted, our aim is now to provide long-term funds to Bali’s most worthwhile charities so they can eradicate poverty from Bali for good.

Bali Charities Receiving Proceeds:

• Scholars of Sustenance - combatting the effects of COVID-19 by providing nutrition to those in need.

• East Bali Poverty Project - sharing food and caring during COVID-19

• Bali Children's Foundation - providing food relief to vulnerable families and helping thousands of local children to complete school and find employment.

• Friends of National Park Foundation - working to protect wildlife and their habitats, at the same time supporting local communities.

• Bali Wise by R.O.L.E Foundation - empowering marginalised women through skills education as a means to develop sustainable communities.
